Another year gone by, another “most memorable” list! Among the many shows that came out this year, these are the ones that will stick with me forever.

[Only the shows that aired in 2023 are listed below.]

9. Glamorous (Netflix)

My Rating: 6.5/10

Source: Netflix

This Netflix comedy-drama series, which starred the iconic Kim Cattrall, was more than just a comedy-drama. Glamorous provides a good dose of humour as well as a look inside the “glamour” industry from Marco’s (Miss Benny’s) perspective. Notable moments include Kim’s hilarious scenes and the stunningly beautiful Miss Benny’s bold dialogues, as a lead. Despite knowing that Glamorous has not received a second season renewal, this one was undoubtedly the most memorable of 2023.

8. The Idol (HBO Original)

My Rating: 6.9/10

Source: HBO Max

Your 2023 undoubtedly went better than mine if you were not traumatised by Tedros’ (Abel Tesfaye) embarrassing dialogues throughout the entire show. In the summer of 2023, people who haven’t watched any episodes of this renowned and disputable show must have come across a lot of memes featuring Tedros’ face. The Idol is the most controversial TV program of 2023, if not the decade!

7. XO, Kitty (Netflix)

My Rating: 7/10

Source: Netflix

Who doesn’t love a teen rom-com in the months of summer? With an ensemble cast of Asian actors, XO, Kitty was one of the best teen romcoms that came out in 2023. A spin-off of the world of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, this one’s about the adolescent and romantic journey of the youngest Covey sister, as well as finding her maternal roots in the beautiful lands of South Korea. XO, Kitty was among the most talked-about Netflix romances in 2023!

6. Tooth Pari: When Love Bites (Netflix)

My Rating: 7.2/10

Source: Koimoi

Ranked 6th in this list would be one of my most favorite supernatural dramas (of all time), Tooth Pari: When Love Bites. This tale, which takes a contemporary approach to the vampire-human romance and is set in modern-day Kolkata, was too captivating to not watch in one sitting! This hilarious yet horrifying supernatural romance, which starred prominent actors like Saswata Chatterjee, Revathi, Adil Hussain, and Tilottama Shome, was definitely not what I had anticipated!

5. The Crowded Room (Apple TV+)

My Rating: 7.4/10

Source: AppleTV+

We all have come across that one scene from this miniseries where Tom Holland’s character is taking “backshots,” right? If not, then you need to watch this American psychological thriller based on the true story of Billy Milligan, who was cleared of several unsettling crimes, featuring the aforementioned actor, along with Amanda Seyfried and Sasha Lane.

4. Scoop (Netflix)

My Rating: 7.8/10

Source: Netflix

Scoop, one of Netflix’s most eagerly awaited Indian crime dramas, more than lived up to the high hopes of its audience. When it was first released, this Hansal Mehta-directed film became the talk of the town thanks to the excellent performances of Mohammed Zeeshan, Harman Baweja, and Karishma Tanna. Scoop, which is based on Jigna Vora’s book Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison, was a summertime breath of air of renewal following the glut of dramas and romantic comedies that released on Netflix.

3. Beef (Netflix)

My Rating: 8.2/10

Source: National Herald

My admiration for Ali Wong get stronger as I watch her more. Her impeccable comedic delivery and gesticulations are what draw audiences in. Also starring the farcical Steven Yeun, Beef is hands-down THE BEST comedy-drama of 2023. The storyline, the acting, the BGM, the dialogues — chef’s kisses to all of them.

2. Taali (Jio Cinema)

My Rating: 8.5/10

Source: Jio Cinema

Taali is a compelling and poignant biographical film that depicts the pivotal stages in the life of transwoman and activist Shreegauri Sawant, as well as her struggle for transgender rights in India. Starring acclaimed actress Sushmita Sen as Gauri, Taali is a remarkable production that is both heartbreaking and captivating. Nothing to say about the film’s subject matter or Sushmita’s acting — it’s all too good to be true.

1. The Last of Us (HBO Original)

My Rating: 9/10

Source: Hulu

People were talking about this post-apocalyptic drama all through 2023. Nobody could have predicted that The Last of Us, the television adaptation of the well-known game of the same name by Naughty Dog, would be this fantastic and captivating! Even though we knew what would happen to our favourite characters in each episode, this show kept us glued to the couch. It’s possible that some of us shed tears as well because the Frank-Bill sequence was so intense. Undoubtedly, The Last of Us is a show that will rank among HBO’s greatest hits.

Although I have several recurrent seasons of my favourite shows to watch, I don’t usually start new shows. However, this year, I finally got into the above-mentioned series, and I’m glad I did. In actuality, I have watched the latest seasons of many shows that were released prior to 2023, including Heartstopper, Black Mirror, Barry’s, Abbott Elementary, and Shadow & Bone. Let me know which movie on the list you enjoyed and which ones you watched this year that’s not in this list!
